Lawn Topdressing in Atlanta

A compost-and-sand blend that rebuilds tired Georgia clay — more organic matter, a smoother surface, deeper roots — paired with double-direction aeration.

The problem

Clay lawns run out of what feeds them

Atlanta’s subsoil is low on organic matter — the humus that holds water and nutrients where roots can reach them. You can’t fix that from a bag; you build it back into the soil. Topdressing is how we do it: a nutrient-rich blend worked into aerated soil, season after season.

How it works

The run, step by step

1
Double-pass aeration. We open the soil first so the blend works down into the channels instead of sitting on top.
2
Compost & sand blend. Composted manure and sand spread at about a yard per 1,000 sq ft and raked in.
3
Bio-Charge (optional). Our humic-acid-and-seaweed soil spray feeds the microbes that unlock the nutrients already in your soil. Discounted when it goes down with a topdressing.
4
Worked into the top few inches. Together they flood the root zone with soil biology and nutrition.
5
Repeat, seasonally. Over time it smooths the surface, improves drainage, and raises organic matter — the slow, compounding fix for tired clay.

Professor’s note

One application is a down payment, not a cure. This is a multi-season program and I will be honest with you about the timeline.

Questions

FAQ

What is lawn topdressing?
A thin, even layer of a compost-and-sand blend spread across the lawn after aeration and raked in. Over repeated seasons it builds organic matter, smooths the surface, and improves drainage in tight Georgia clay.
Sand or compost — which does my lawn need?
Compost is what builds the soil: it adds humus, which carries some of the highest cation exchange of anything in soil. Sand carries none — it is there for structure and drainage. Our blend uses both; compost is the part doing the soil-building work.
How often should I topdress?
On struggling lawns we recommend twice a season. It is a multi-season program, not a one-off — one application is a down payment, and the surface and organic matter improve with each pass.
Will topdressing fix a bumpy lawn?
It gently smooths over time, but genuine ruts, birdbaths, and washboard need our heavier sand leveling service instead. Topdressing feeds and refines; leveling corrects grade.
